Long time since last update. But I have been working on a lot of architectural improvements, which will enable some nifty stuff in the future (and speed up the Linux port):
  • You can now drag the tabs to split the display. This allows you to see multiple documents at the same time.

  • If you manually selects a syntax for a file (with the popup menu), it is remembered next time you open a file with the same extension.

  • Some improvements to startup speed (more to come).

  • Lots of minor bugfixes.
The latest release can be downloaded at:

I think you just made a lot of people happy Wink

Splitting the panes is a little fiddly, no doubt i will get used to it, but maybe an item like "split horizontal" or "split vertical" in the context menu when you click on a tab?

Closing the last open document doesn't generate a new "Untitled" document any more, which is a little bit confusing. (Too much gray on the screen for this time of year. Wink )

it does for me using ctrl-w, but i can close that tab and bathe in gray ... not sure if the last version let you do that.

Sweet, thanks for the update. The tab dropping is pretty sweet although I like the idea of adding a right click option too. The ability to have so many columns/rows open at once is just nutty! Looking forward to the Linux port too.

Unexpected and awesome. I've been itching for split screen, and so has a co-worker of mine. Glad we finally got it. Now only if I could request a larger monitor so I could get some more value out of split screen.

Also, i'm hoping that the auto pairing bug gets fixed soon. There needs to be a better way to jump out of the auto pair rather than reaching over to the right arrow key or the end key. I wouldn't even mind retyping the keys if it smartly overwrote what was previously there rather than inserting new things.

I second that. After finally using textmate just recently, I realized how much nicer that feature is when it works that way.

I can honestly say that E-Texteditor is the primary reason I don't use Linux 100% for development. The secondary reason is that I have to use Internet Destroyer 6 to bug test. I can't wait to see the Linux port!

The tabs-to-split is tasty. Out of the envy of my (g)Vim and TxMt brothers and sisters comes E! Sure, a right-click context menu would be nice. But this is effective enough.

Thanks a lot for the update. I'm really happy that you keep on working hard for improving the editor.

If it doesn't slow you too much down, it would be nice if you took time to run through the bug reports (closing/rejecting/accepting the relevant ones).

Don't let it slow you down, but let us know if you need any help Smile
